With so many electronic health record systems

I love the cohesiveness of SuiteMed. There is one login, one password and one software program to maintain, rather than 2 different programs like I had with Lytec and my EMR. SuiteMed saves me time because any detailed information is at my fingertips

"I've enjoyed a relationship with MBSS since May 2001 when I first met Danielle Taimuty, The Owner. I feel that even though MBSS has grown significantly since then, they still show that same friendly customer service as they did when they worked out of that small red school house on McClelland Road".

I was ecstatic! This is an experience I will never forget. I was actually quite impressed with how our government was going through this process and gathering important information which will dramatically affect the future of our industry. They certainly have their work cut out for them and it is not going to be easy. There were many topics of discussion, however I believe the most important were the solutions being presented around meaningful use.
It was the opinion of many that the data from an EMR system must have liquidity and be separate from the application to have true interoperability. So for those EMR companies that don't like to play in the sand box with others..... |
|
|
|

they will facea struggle in this new marketplace. Also the interoperability standards will be challenging. The standards for lab and e-prescribing have been created and for the most part, EMRs are communicating well with these entities. But even with the standards most connections require some tweaking. |

Just think of all the other elements that are in each and every EMR. You have your basic demographics, but how do you handle histories, exams, diagnosis (ICD-10 is coming) and special categories for each
specialty. No wonder we have not been able to conquer this task yet. But our government is determined and they are planning a road map that will address the most basic of elements and add additional requirements as time goes on. I like to think back with HIPAA and the institution of ANSI claim formats. Although this was a much simpler process, it is the same idea. Everyone needs to be able to share information in the same format. |

The certification entity hasn't been officially selected yet, but CCHIT is the entity the experts are expecting to be named. There were a lot of discussions regarding the certification requirements CCHIT has set. Most feel that they are too feature driven as opposed to focusing on "meaningful use". In addition, the vendors who presented expressed the concern of having the same certified product installed at many different locations with drastically different results. It was recommended that there be a two part certification which would not only certify a product but also certify a site to ensure the providers are installing and using the products correctly. Specialty specific certifications were addressed but the consensus seemed to be that the core requirements need to be set first. One thing that was ABSOLUTELY clear, the government wants providers on an EMR by 2014 and they do not want delays. |

The government is clearly planning on educating the patients and approaching this change from all aspects.
We are already seeing some retail stores targeting the patients and treating them as a consumer. From the information presented at the meeting the patients will have access and participate in their own care. The analogy used was that the patient would access their health record just like they access their banking. Providers who do not have a certified EMR will have a hard time staying in business. It would be like picking a bank that doesn't offer a MAC card. Bottom line, consumers are going to demand this technology and seek providers who provide higher quality care. |

As some of you may or may not know, SuiteMed 12.5 is being released shortly. This product is ready for CCHIT 2009 which we plan to apply for at the end of the year. SuiteMed has also decided to release a guarantee that our product will be compliant with the meaningful use standards which will be released before the end of the year. |
